A Life
Among Whales
"A LIFE AMONG WHALES delves deeply into the unique relationship
between humans and whales as told by renowned whale biologist Dr.
Roger Payne. For four decades Payne has advanced the boundaries of
science and activism. With beautiful and haunting imagery, the film
forces us to question our stewardship of the Earth and our
coexistence with some of its most intriguing creatures." - Amazon

Burning the Future
"Writer/director David Novack examines the explosive forces that
have set in motion a groundswell of conflict between the coal
industry and residents of West Virginia. Faced with toxic ground
water, the obliteration of 1.4 million acres of mountains, and a
government that appeases industry, ordinary citizens launch a
valiant fight to arouse the nation's help in protecting their
mountains, saving their families and preserving their way of
life."
Sharkwater
This beautiful documentary is a passionate plea to save one of the
most endangered species on our planet, the shark. Killed mainly for
shark fin soup in Asia, this billion dollar market is decimating
shark populations all over the world. Follow Rob Stewart as he
fights to save this amazing and ancient animal.

Crude Impact and
A Crude
Awakening
Crude Impact and A Crude Awakening explore the connection between
our dependence on fossil fuels and its impact on our environment.
Experts discuss the scary fact of peak oil and its effect on our
lives, economy and ecosystems. Fossil fuels are so deeply
intertwined to all of our daily lives that we owe it ourselves to
stay informed.
The End of Suburbia
How does the suburban lifestyle of Americans effect the rest of the
world? Find out how this lifestyle is not only bad for the
environment but also is ultimately doomed. The film's vision of
smaller and and more local urban environments provides a hopeful
alternative for the future. Whether you live in the city, the
country or the suburbs, this is a movie you should see.
The 11th Hour
This film is a sweeping tour of the most pressing environmental
problems we face and the reason behind why these problems exist.
This film differentiates itself by focusing on the human attitudes
and values toward our natural world and how these must change
before fixing our natural world. The accompanying website is also
very informative.

Blue Gold: World Water
Wars and
Flow
The wars of the future will be fought over water, not oil. Fresh
water only accounts for 3% of all the world's water, yet this
precious resource is being consumed and abused at unsustainable
rates. These films explore these issues as well as the role of
multinational corporations in the privatization of water.
Winged
Migration
Winged Migration is a remarkable accomplishment documenting the
migration patters of birds on all seven continents. During their
three years of filming, the makers of this movie were able to
capture the inner spirit of birds in flight, and the obstacles they
face as they move great distances. Contrasting gorgeous images with
the plight of many birds today makes for a powerful environmental
message.
The Burning
Season
This movie recently received great praise at the Tribeca Film
Festival and will soon be released to the general public. Dorjee
Sun goes to Indonesian Borneo to explore the impacts of the fires
that are deliberately set across the country each year. This
farming practice is causing the destruction of vital rainforest,
which contributes greatly to climate change as well as habitat loss
for orangutans and other species. The website is also an excellent
resource.
Baraka
The cinematography in this film is simply stunning. The producers
have given us a 96 minute gift of the beauty of this planet, as
well as the often horrifying urban landscapes we have created. A
movie without words, this is best watched in a quiet place and with
a quiet mind. The Sufi word baraka means blessing, and that is how
you may feel after watching this extraordinary film.
An Inconvenient Truth
This film becomes more relevant with each passing day. Al Gore has
effectively created one of the most popular films about climate
crisis to date. The information presented in the film is scientific
and serves as a reminder to all that unless urgent action is taken,
we are heading down the wrong path toward preserving the earth's
biodiversity.
Taking Root
Wangari Maathai's story is an uplifting and inspiring message of
the power of what one person can do. This film traces the life of
the 2004 recipient of the Noble Peace Prize. Wangari is best known
for her Green Belt Movement which planted over 35 million trees.
However, one of the most powerful messages in this film is the deep
connection between environmental degradation and human rights. Her
struggle against the Moi government is an incredible story of
determination and personal strength.
To the Tar Sands
This film follows a group of 19 college students as they bike from
Waterton National parks to the Tar Sands in Northern Alberta. The
purpose of their journey is to understand how the oil boom has
affected the people of Alberta and to raise awareness about the
true cost of this gigaproject.
Darwin's
Nightmare
This film explores the nightmare that has fallen on Lake Victoria
by the introduction of the Nile Perch. Introduced to the lake in
the 1960's, this fish has completely devastated the natural
ecosystem of the world's second largest lake. Along with this
ecological disaster has followed arms smuggling, prostitution,
poverty and hunger. It's a sobering but important film.
Our Daily Bread
Without words or judgment, this film visits the world of industrial
food production. From chicken "factories" to olive groves to
industrial greenhouses, Our Daily Bread gives us a peak into modern
food production. If you want to learn more about where modern food
comes from, this is a great film
Home
Home is a beautiful movie. Shot by the French Film-maker Yann
Arthus Bertrand over a Period of 3 years, Home takes the viewer on
a journey around the planet and shares the extraordinary beauty and
the urgent necessity in taking care of our Home. We have shared
this movie with many friends and family and it has had a strong
impact on everyone who has watched it.
The World
According to Monsanto
This movie explores the quiet take-over of our food supply by
Monsanto. Shown as a documentary in France, this film uses a very
unique approach in unfolding the story of Monsanto. From Pesticides
to GMO's, Monsanto is behind most foods eaten by North American's
and is increasingly doing the same in other countries. This is an
important film, along with Flow or Blue Gold, because control of
our water and food is more powerful than a large army.
